Perhaps you are wondering whether it is worth booking interview coaching sessions and what this can help you to achieve.
In this article we’ll explore how interview coaching can help you to identify your current level of interview skills, teach you to develop your individual development areas and help you to improve your confidence in interviews, as well as looking at when it may not be beneficial to help you to decide whether interview coaching is right for you.
Benefits of Interview Coaching:
- Personalized Feedback and Guidance:
- I can help you identify your strengths and development areas. You’ll receive specific feedback on how to tailor your responses, refine your examples, and fine-tune the delivery of your interview answers by improving your tone of voice, eye-contact and body language, so you make the best possible impression on interviewers. It can be difficult to obtain this feedback elsewhere, unless you have a friend with extensive HR / recruitment experience, as most companies are unwilling to provide detailed interview feedback.
- Targeted Preparation for Common and Difficult Questions:
- I will write interview questions specifically for a role of your choice in the same was as a genuine interviewer, so you can practice likely interview questions, and we can develop some outstanding examples together.
- We will practice competency/behavioural questions (e.g., “Tell me about a time when…”) using proven frameworks like STAR or STARR, as well as practicing situational, technical and motivational questions, and improve the content and delivery of your answers.
- Building Your Confidence:
- Almost everyone feels nervous in interviews, we will practice likely mock interview questions, learn to accurately rate your own interview performance and build your confidence in interviews. As well as improving your interview skills so you can introduce yourself confidently and create an excellent first impression. It can be incredibly difficult trying to improve your confidence on your own or with a friend or relative, as they cannot accurately rate your interview performance, or compare your performance to other candidates.
- Improve Your Communication Skills:
- During interview coaching sessions, I can help you to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, improving your interview performance.

Interview Coaching can be especially beneficial:
- If you’re transitioning careers: If you’re moving into a new field or industry, interview coaching can help you position your transferable skills effectively and teach you how to explain why you are changing your career path.
- If you’re preparing for a competitive role: Interview coaching helps you to understand exactly what hiring managers are looking for and how to differentiate yourself from other candidates.
- If you’re not getting past the first round of interviews: If you’re attending interviews but not receiving offers, interview coaching can help you to identify why this is happening and teach you how to improve your interview skills.
- If you need to improve your confidence in interviews. Interview coaching sessions are one of the best ways of improving your confidence in interviews.
Interview Coaching may not suit people:
- Who aren’t open to feedback/advice: Coaching is about improving your interview skills, so the more you listen, apply the advice and practice, the better your chances of improving your interview performance.
- With an extremely busy schedule: You’ll need to commit time for coaching sessions, additional preparation, and to practice on your own or with friends to practice using the skills and techniques you learn during the coaching sessions.
- On an extremely tight budget: Interview coaching is personally tailored to your needs, so it requires extensive preparation. Most people benefit from the two session Interview Skills Package, which costs £229. Alternatively, I also offer access to a pre-recorded interview skills training course (£99), which can be a more cost-effective option if you do not require personally tailored advice and support.
- Who are already confident in their interviewing skills: If you’re already confident in your interviewing skills, or if you’re applying to roles that don’t require intense preparation (e.g. entry-level positions), you may not need interview coaching.
Real Results
Interview coaching can be valuable if you’re serious about securing a new role, especially for competitive roles, or if you struggle with confidence during interviews. It’s an investment in your career which can help you to overcome issues and often reduces the time it takes you to secure your next role.
The vast majority of my clients significantly improve their interview skills after two coaching sessions (£229), and secure the role we initially prepared for. Most clients improve their interview scores by 10-15 marks, receiving excellent interview feedback. A few clients have forwarded me external interview scorecards showing an increase of 25-30 marks, taking them from the weakest to the strongest candidate. Whilst most clients have two interview coaching sessions, occasionally some clients book a third session to fully boost their confidence.
I also offer individual 60-90 minute sessions which suit people who want to practice their interview skills, or improve a specific development area, such as their competency-based answers.
Whilst interview coaching is highly beneficial for most people, this depends on your current level of interview skills, your willingness to improve and how confident you feel about your interview skills.
